Judge John Deed has made it to the top of his profession on his own terms. Fearless and independent, he regularly crosses establishment figures - men like his former father-in-law, Lord Justice of Appeal Channing; his ex-wife's fiancee the Home Secretary; or Sir Ian Rochester at the Lord Chancellor's Office - who try to influence his decisions. A sharp intellect, a rakish charm and keen wit help Deed stand his ground but, along with his good looks, these are often his downfall too. For too long women - ex-wife Georgina Channing, Sir Ian's wife Francesca Rochester and barrister Jo Mills - have proved the judge's weakness. 1. Political Expediency:
An Arab sheikh, in the UK to sign a billion pound aeroplane order, finds his driver charged with the murder of a young prostitute.
2. Abuse Of Power:
A retraced confession from a man with mental age of 13 and a multiple mortgage fraud case both put pressure on Deed.
3. Nobody's Fool:
Deed tries a case in which three kids are accused of murdering their parents, meanwhile he renews his affair with Francesca Rochester.
4. Everyone's Child:
Jo Mills and Deed clash as the Judge decides on whether to let a heart transplant operation go ahead against the patient's wishes.
