Anne, now in her twenties, returns to Avonlea for the first time since the death of Marilla Cuthbert. However, her fiancée Gilbert has been offered a position at a hospital in New York persuades Anne to go with him. But life in the city is not what either of them expected and after some harrowing experience they decide to return to Avonela.
Back on Prince Edward Island they are thrust into the midst of wartime society and Gilbert feels duty bound to enlist as a medical officer. They are married a week before he departs for Europe. Soon Anne's worst fears come true when she receives the devastating news that Gilbert is missing in action. Determined not to lose him, Anne does the only thing she can - she sets off to brave the Battlefields of World War 1 in a perilous search for the love of her life.... |
